Frankenmuth: National Credit Union Week began on October 12, and Frankenmuth Credit Union (FCU) celebrated from Monday to Friday through community service, local outreach, and member engagement.
The entire FCU staff met at the Uptown North Main banquet facility on Columbus Day to kick off the festivities. Staff volunteered time packing hundreds of toiletry bags which were donated to 24 local nonprofit organizations. Food items, diapers, and bedding were also gathered and contributed to “I Support the 1%”, United Way, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Staff then participated in FCU’s Annual Hope Tree Auction. The employee-funded event features games and live and silent auctions. It provides financial support for worthy causes in the communities FCU serves. This year, Frankenmuth Credit Union staff supported four impactful organizations – the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night, Love for A Child, Underground Railroad, and Hope for the Forgotten Outreach. The 2026 Hope Tree event raised a total of $31,843.
Later in the week FCU participated in CU Lunch Local – a day when credit unions order lunch from local restaurants to support community businesses. FCU staff placed orders at 40 restaurants with a combined impact of $3,327. FCU also treated members to popcorn all week long, while staff participated in fun dress-up days, including Hat Day, Costume Day, Outdoor Activity Day, and Team Spirit Day.
“This was an extra special credit union week. I am amazed by the generosity and outpouring of love from our staff for those in our communities. It really highlights who we are as a credit union and the need that we serve. We are also incredibly proud to partner with outstanding nonprofit organizations to assist them in the wonderful work that they do for families in our region,” stated Vickie Schmitzer – CEO of Frankenmuth Credit Union.
